March 2017

Happy Spring everyone or is it still winter? We have been happy to share all of the Limited wines with you this winter and still have the March white Blanc de Noir and April’s grape skin red Grenache Cabernet.

The spring Limited Rose-Sauvignon Blanc blended with Pinot Noir was and is a huge success this year. Deb carbonated hers last year and is enjoying it. If you like Prosecco wine be sure to ask to have yours done.

We have been doing a little blending of wine over the winter. Our favourite so far Italian Pinot Grigio with Viognier. If you have something you would like to try ask us.

We have 2 new cider flavours to add to our list this year, Peach mango and Guavo, along with Apple, Pear, Raspberry-Lime, and Mixed Berry.

Now is a good time to get your cellar stocked in time for Summer. Order yours now!

And check out our featured recipe, Creamy Parmesan Risotto with Pinot Gris!

Please check us out on Facebook and have a look at our website: westsideubrew.ca. Enjoy your company and remember to savour the flavour and drink responsibly.

LE 2016
March and April’s Limited Edition wines are now ready to order

The LE Program has built a reputation of delivering exceptional, unique wines year after year. That’s why LE continues to be the biggest, most successful limited release program. The response to this year’s lineup has been great!

For March we have the Blanc de Noir (watch video), an elusive white wine that is made from red grapes, done in an off-dry style, this is the must-have wine of the year.

April’s is the Grenache Cabernet (watch video). Grenache is the yin to Cabernet Sauvignon’s yang.  It’s both soft and jammy to balance out the powerful structure of Cabernet, yet rich and spicy enough to stand up to him.

In the 2016 WineMaker International Amateur Wine Competition all five LE14 wines were awarded medals; a testament to the superior quality of our LE program. We’re confident LE16 will continue the award-winning tradition.

Place your order to avoid missing out on these two fantastic wines.

Recipe of the Month: Creamy Parmesan Risotto with Pinot Gris

An appealing element of a risotto is it’s versatility!

A welcome meal as Spring hits and the weather warms up. A basic risotto is fabulous by itself however, the addition of, say, a variety of sauteed mushrooms, a pinch of saffron, steamed asparagus or the zest of lemon can take this dish to a whole new level.

  •     5 cups stock, chicken, vegetable
  •     2 Tablespoons butter
  •     2 Tablespoons olive oil
  •     1 shallot, finely diced
  •     2 cups Arborio rice
  •     1 cup dry white wine, such as a Pinot Gris
  •     1 1/2 cups parmesan cheese, finely grated
  •     Salt and pepper, to taste

  1. In a saucepan bring the stock to a simmer.
  2. In another saucepan, melt the butter with the olive oil and saute shallots over low-med heat for about 10 minutes.
  3. Add the rice to the shallots and stir, coating all of the grains with the oil and cook for 5 minutes.
  4. Add the wine to the rice and stir until the liquid is absorbed. Slowly add the hot stock to the mixture one cup at a time until each cup is absorbed, stirring constantly until rice is is tender but still slightly firm in the center and the mixture is creamy, about 18 minutes.
  5. Add the parmesan cheese, salt and pepper to taste and stir well. Serve immediately.

Serve with the rest of the Pinot GrisAnd check out more recipes on our website
